The characters will be young enough that they don't have lots of memories of the Clone Wars, if any, and only know what the Republic was like before from stories and Imperial propaganda.* The changes to history mean that the PCs will be able to be positioned to be the heroes of the saga, rather than the Skywalkers, since Anakin and Padme didn't have children. The campaign, which isn't fully formed in my head yet, in part because I don't have a group and they don't have characters, is that the characters will be fringe and underworld types operating in the Rebels/Rogue One era. (Anakin still falls to the Dark Side for other reasons that butterfly off from the lack of Jar-Jar, though.) The general thrust of the Clone Wars and the Empire stays the same, but Anakin doesn't get dismembered and burned, Obi-Wan quits the Jedi Order before the end of the Clone Wars, and Anakin and Padme never fall in love. The point of divergence is that Jar-Jar doesn't meet Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan on Naboo, and from there changes butterfly out.

The book also features detailed guidelines for situating PCs within large-scale, cinematic mass combat scenes and suggestions for crafting engaging, high-stakes, military campaigns. Inside the 96 pages of this career supplement, players and Game Masters will find three new Command specializations – Figurehead, Instructor, and Strategist – as well as new playable species, gear designed to support Commanders in the field, and vehicles ready to take on Imperial fleets. Lead by Example, a sourcebook for the Star Wars®: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game, offers Commanders the talents and other tools they need to succeed. But command, whether it entails shaping military strategy, training new recruits, or being a recognizable face of the Rebel Alliance, is not easy. If it weren't for Commanders who were willing and able to take up the mantle of leadership, those hungry to liberate the galaxy from Imperial rule might never have come together to form the Rebellion.
